Dr. Rachel Gittman
Dr. Gittman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Northeastern University’s Marine Science Center. Dr. Gittman received her doctorate in ecology in December 2014 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Gittman's dissertation research was focused on the effects of coastal development, specifically shoreline hardening, on shoreline protection and habitat provision for fishes and crustaceans. Results from field surveys of different shorelines types suggest that salt marsh shorelines provide better habitat and erosion protection than traditional shoreline hardening approaches, such as bulkheads.
